Science for all conference
Sommes-nous différents des insectes ?
Vendredi 20 septembre à 18h30

As part of the “science for all” series of lectures given by scientific volunteers from the “science pour Tous 06” association , the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer invites you to meet: Friday September 20 at 6:30pm at the Maison des Associations – 7 Av. de l’Hôtel de Ville, on the theme of “Are we so different from insects?
Or why protecting the environment means protecting ourselves?
Hosted by Marcel Amichot

Free admission – All ages 15 and up.

Over the last few years, fundamental research on Drosophila has shown us that we are much closer to them than Man has long thought.
A few examples of development, immunity, nervous system or intestinal physiology will illustrate these similarities.
And let’s not stop there!
Let’s take the comparison to plants and fungi, right down to the cellular level.
And now, let’s scare ourselves by considering the mode of action of certain pesticides, then reassure ourselves (a little) by highlighting what differentiates us from the organisms targeted by pesticides.
To conclude this presentation, we’ll see why protecting the environment means protecting ourselves.

Marcel Amichot is an INRAE researcher at the Sophia-Antipolis site.
With a PhD in Life Sciences, and a strong background in molecular genetics and biochemistry, his initial training led him to discover insect resistance to insecticides.
His work then led him to take an interest in the unintended effects of insecticides and, more generally, pesticides.
The range of his skills thus broadened to include certain aspects of insect physiology and, more generally, ecotoxicology.
Quite naturally, with no pun intended, biocontrol strategies for agricultural pests attracted his attention and now occupy a large part of his research time.
His past and present combine to give him a unique perspective on pest control.
